Artist Interview

When did you first encounter the 24 Italian Songs & Arias? And how did you feel about them then and now?

I first encountered the 24 Italian Arias when my voice teacher introduced them to me during my freshman year in high school. It was a really great way to start singing classical solo pieces as a beginner. I remember working through them and finding them challenging but rewarding, and now they feel easier but still very fun to sing.

What do you remember about yourself when you first sang them?

I remember being new to singing in Italian and singing classical solo pieces in general. I only had experience singing in an ensemble and I had to work really hard to get the pronunciations, rhythms, and pitches correctly. I ended up singing one of the arias for a recital and it was really gratifying to end all of that hard work with a performance.

What have you learned about yourself on your journey with singing?

I’ve learned how much I enjoy music and singing. When I started with this book I was trying to figure out what I liked and it’s helped me uncover my passions. Singing has really shaped me into the person I am today. I remember not wanting to practice every day or sing in front of people and over time my work ethic and confidence have really grown.
